Blackstone Credit & Insurance and Canadian institutional investors have finalized an agreement to purchase a 49.9% non-controlling interest in a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation, Oilprice.com reported. The deal, valued at $3.1 billion, concerns the Japanese firm’s 15% stake in the LNG Canada export facility. The asset manager confirmed these details on Monday.

The participating Canadian institutional investors include the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. This acquisition underscores continued financial interest in Canadian liquefied natural gas infrastructure. By securing this stake, the consortium gains a position in the project, reflecting ongoing capital allocation toward North American energy export capacity as global supply chains evolve.

This investment highlights the role of private equity and pension funds in financing energy assets. Market observers note that such capital deployments suggest enduring confidence in long-term natural gas demand. The transaction positions the Blackstone-led group to participate in the export potential of the LNG Canada facility, a key infrastructure asset in the broader energy landscape.
